The Gospel

For a mind-expanding, God-exalting exercise, I suggest listening to the audio from the Gospel Coalition Conference held this past May. There's also video available.

  • Don Carson - What is the Gospel | m4v | mp3
  • Tim Keller - What Does Gospel Centered Ministry Look Like | m4v | mp3
  • Don Carson - Plans and Purposes of the Gospel Coalition | m4v | mp3 (downloadable audio coming soon)
  • John Piper - The Triumph of The Gospel in the New Heavens and the New Earth | m4v | mp3
  • Crawford Loritts - Passing the Torch | m4v | mp3

    Friday Photo

There's been some early mornings for me lately (some might call them late nights), so I took advantage of the abnormal time awake and headed over to the Lake to get some shots of the sun coming up over the city of Chi.

    Gaping Open...

My mouth that is. At first I laughed at the absurdity of it. Then when Christ was raised on the cross, my heart dropped. Is this what we've reduced our faith to? Is this how we bring glory to our Lord and Savior, who took the punishment we deserve upon himself? His blood has been shed for this too, but do we really think this magnifies the glory of our Redeemer? Is this how we treat him who is our resurrection and our life? Didn't Jesus himself kick some people out of the temple for this sort of business-ization of God? Sure the ad may be satirical, but the real thing still exists.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to think our faith is more about action than action figures.

    I Doll A Tree

Listen: Keller via Driscoll asks christians 14 questions about idolatry:

    1. Where do I run for comfort in times of trouble?
    2. What am I most afraid of?
    3. What do I most passionately long for?
    4. What do I complain the most about?
    5. Where do I find my greatest happiness?
    6. How do I describe myself to others?
    7. What makes you angry at God?
    8. What do I brag about?
    9. What do I want the most?
    10. What do I sacrifice for the most?
    11. What one thing would I change in my life?
    12. Whose approval am I seeking?
    13. What do I want to control the most in my life?
    14. What comfort do I treasure the most?
The answers to these questions can help reveal where we have idolatry in our lives and where we are letting religion run our lives, rather than the Gospel.

The first, obviously, are clouds, but God has been making some great clouds over Chicago lately. The second is me.

    Media Monday

Yeah, Monday's almost over, so next week I'll be a little more on top of things next week.

YouTube brings us all sorts of delights and distractions from our work day-- or any day for that matter. Here are two videos to help keep you distracted...

    Friday Photo

I'm trying to get my own personal shots of "Iconic Chicago." The first is simply known as the Chicago Theatre. During its first years, it was a movie theatre, but now hosts live performances. The second are the windows of a building that's at the north end of Millenium Park. I can't find nomenclature on the building though.
